A mystery story for children aged 6-8 where Detective Daisy investigates the curious case of the missing shadows in a noir-inspired world. I hope you and your young readers enjoy solving the mystery!
Detective Daisy
The sun was high over the Clover Street playground, but something was terribly wrong. Daisy adjusted her oversized spectacles and peered at the base of the oak tree. Usually, a long, cool pool of darkness stretched across the grass, but today, the ground was a flat, blinding green. The oak tree, the slide, and even the ice cream truck were missing their shadows.
Daisy pulled a magnifying glass from her trench coat pocket. To most people, a shadow was just a silhouette, but to Daisy, it was a tether—the silent partner that followed every object. Without them, the world looked like a pop-up book where someone had forgotten to glue the figures down. "They didn't just disappear," she whispered, spotting a faint, translucent trail of grey dust leading toward the old library. "They were unhooked."
