Wolf in Sheep’s Clothing

The wool was heavy, hot, and smelled faintly of damp earth and old rain, but Silas wore it like a second skin. Around him, the flock moved in a synchronised, gentle tide, their soft murmurs a steady hum against the quiet of the valley. For months, he had mirrored their gait, softened his sharp edges, and tucked his claws deep beneath the matted fleece. He had learned to crave the simple safety of the huddle, the warmth of bodies pressed close against the mountain chill. Yet, as the shadow of a lowing hawk passed overhead, his ears twitched, and his amber eyes flared with an ancient, predatory instinct. He was entirely safe, entirely accepted—and entirely alone. He belonged to the flock now, but the flock would never truly belong to him.
