옛날 옛적, 서울의 한 조용한 동네에 아주 특별한 한옥 한 채가 살았어요. 이름은 ‘똑똑이’였지요. 똑똑이는 보통 집이 아니라, 아이들과 숨바꼭질하기를 세상에서 제일 좋아하는 장난꾸러기 한옥이었답니다. Once upon a time, in a quiet neighbourhood in Seoul, there lived a very special traditional house named Dokdoki. Dokdoki wasn’t just an ordinary house; he was a playful little Hanok who loved playing hide-and-seek with children more than anything else in the world. |

햇살이 따스하게 내리쬐는 마당은 똑똑이의 가장 멋진 놀이터였어요. 동네 아이들이 마당에 모여 "꼭꼭 숨어라, 머리카락 보인다!" 하고 소리치면, 똑똑이는 기분 좋게 마당 바닥을 살짝 간지럽혔어요. Bathed in warm sunshine, the courtyard was Dokdoki’s favourite playground. When the neighbourhood kids gathered in the yard and shouted, "Ready or not, here we come!", Dokdoki would happily tickle the ground with glee. |

"어디 숨었지?" 아이들이 쫑쫑걸음으로 다가오자, 똑똑이는 서둘러 창호지 문을 스르륵 닫았어요. 하얀 문 뒤로 똑똑이의 장난스러운 그림자가 비치며 아이들을 향해 윙크를 날렸답니다. "Where could he be?" the children whispered as they tiptoed closer. Quickly, Dokdoki slid his translucent paper doors shut. Behind the white changhoji paper, his playful shadow blinked and winked at the kids. |

대청마루 아래 그늘은 또 다른 비밀 장소였어요. 숨바꼭질이 끝난 뒤, 아이들과 똑똑이는 마루에 나란히 앉아 시원한 바람을 맞으며 낮잠을 청했답니다. 똑똑이의 처마 끝에서는 풍경 소리가 달콤한 자장가처럼 울려 퍼졌어요. The cool shade beneath the wooden veranda was another secret spot. After the game of hide-and-seek ended, the children and Dokdoki rested side by side on the maru porch, enjoying the gentle breeze.
