Under the Rose

A Tale of Two Snails in Love

Under the Rose: A Tale of Two Snails in Love

Shelly was a young snail, her shell a vibrant shade of emerald, who had just arrived in the grand rose garden. The world was a vast, dewy expanse for her, and the first thing that captivated her was the intoxicating fragrance. Following the sweet scent, she found herself drawn to a particularly magnificent rose, its velvety petals the colour of a blush. There, perched regally on a dew-kissed leaf, was Sheldon.

Sheldon, with his shell the deep, calming blue of a twilight sky, was known for his love of roses. He was gently nibbling on a petal, savouring its delicate flavour. Shelly, mesmerised by him and the rose, hesitantly approached.

"Excuse me," her voice a soft whisper, "that rose is... magnificent."

Sheldon, startled, turned. His eyes, like tiny black pearls, widened in surprise. "Indeed," he said, his voice a gentle rumble, "the queen of the garden."

From that day on, Shelly and Sheldon became inseparable. They'd spend their days inching along rose stems, sharing stories and dreams. Sheldon, the more adventurous one, would regale her with tales of the hidden corners of the garden - the juicy secrets of the strawberry patch, the thrilling climb up the sunflower stalk. Shelly, with her sharp eyes, would point out the most fragrant blooms, the prettiest dewdrops clinging to petals like diamonds.

Their love blossomed alongside the roses. They'd spend evenings bathed in moonlight, Shelly nestled beside Sheldon, both inhaling the sweet perfume that filled the air. The roses, it seemed, responded to their love. The blooms they favoured grew even more spectacular, their colours richer, their fragrance more intense.

One day, Sheldon announced, with a shy wiggle of his eyestalks, "Shelly, I have something to show you." He led her to a hidden clearing, where a rose unlike any other awaited. It was a perfect blend of pink and lavender, shimmering with a pearlescent sheen.

"It's the Moonstone Rose," Sheldon explained, "the rarest in the garden. It only blooms once a year, under a full moon."

Shelly's heart overflowed. "It's beautiful," she whispered, "like you."

Sheldon extended a slender feeler, gently nudging a dewdrop onto a nearby leaf. It glinted in the moonlight, transforming into a shimmering ring. "Shelly," he rumbled, "will you share your shell with mine, under the light of the Moonstone Rose?"

Tears welled up in Shelly's eyes. "Yes, Sheldon," she whispered, and their slimy embrace, witnessed by the moon and the roses, sealed their love.

The entire garden celebrated their wedding. The rosebushes bloomed in a riot of colours, their scent sweeter than ever. Shelly and Sheldon spent their days exploring the garden together, their love growing stronger with every sunrise. They were a testament to the beauty that blossomed when hearts, even those with shells, met beneath the fragrant embrace of roses.

The end.
